Today we spotted James Martin with his Big Green Egg on ‘This Morning’ – ITV. Cooking Live, he showed us his perfect Beer Can Chicken Recipe. It look delicious!

With many people trying this beer can chicken method at home for the first time, Auldton Stoves would like to share some of our Tips & Tricks to get the perfect Beer Can Chicken. For many years we have loved cooking on kamado style grills and the beer can chicken is a classic… its so easy to get the perfect result.

When Cooking a Beer Can Chicken on any BBQ its important to make sure you keep your meat moist, this can be easier said than done if your using direct heat from your charcoal. At Auldton Stoves we always cook our beer can chicken with indirect heat. This can be done with the Plate Setter (ConvEGGtor) in place if your using a Big Green Egg. If your cooking on a Kamado Joe your best setup is with the new Hyperbolic SlowRoller or simply use the Deflector Plates. Lean More about the SlowRoller

We set our Grills at around 375°F/190°C when cooking a Chicken. This allows the chicken to cook at an even temperature giving it the chance to absorb the beer and stay moist.

You can get creative with your chicken flavour. We love to make up our own rubs from our favourite spices. We start with lightly coating our chicken with Extra Virgin Olive Oil, then follow with our rub combination. Make sure when covering your chicken that you get it into every crease and fold, even into the Chicken cavity.

Always choose a large can of beer, pour half of it out into a glass for later. Sit your chicken on top of the can and place onto the grill. This will help with stability. Sadly the beer left over is not for drinking! Pour it into a clean spray bottle. Spray the chicken throughout the cook to give it added taste and moisture. If you spray the chicken every 15-20 mins you will ensure a juicy and tasty finished result! If you have a ‘Flavour Injector’ you can always inject some melted butter and garlic under the skin.
