Wood Burning Stoves – SNP Humiliating U-Turn.

Wood Burning Stoves – Scotland – Whats Going On?
Scottish Government halt ban on wood-burning stoves in new builds. There has been an update to Scotland’s New Build Heat Standard 19/09/24, with the Scottish Government temporarily reversing the ban of ‘direct emission’ heating systems in new build homes.
Following sustained pressure from the Scottish Conservatives and industry members, the SNP have now been forced into a humiliating u-turn as they announced that the ban has now been paused. This will come as a huge relief to many Scots who rely on these heating systems, especially when there are power cuts during periods of extreme weather like Storm Arwen.
Over 150,000 homes in Scotland burn wood fuel indoors, and for a lot of rural Scots, woodburning stoves are a necessity. The SNP’s ban would have had a devasting impact on people across Scotland, especially in our rural, remote and island communities. It would have also compounded the decision by both the SNP and Labour to remove winter fuel payments from pensioners.
The Scottish Conservatives – with our support here at Auldton Stoves – campaigned very strongly against this ban. We held debates in Parliament and robustly questioned SNP ministers on this issue. Ed, Mark & Naomi alongside Scottish Conservatives held a roundtable event in the Scottish Parliament where we discussed the devastating impact this ban was having on not only our industry but our Customers who rely on these Stoves day in day out.
